This account will be deleted soon. My new journal is alostcorner. I've been worrying for a long time that that that account would be too easily recognised by RL friends-- hence a slightly more obscure username.

So if that journal has friended you, you know who's behind it :)

My old journal's going to stay up until I repost all of my old fic over there-- because even though some of it makes me cringe, I like to keep it around to make sure I keep improving. Then I'll delete ms_chak and hopefully not have to do this again for a long time.

If you've been meaning to defriend me, no need to refriend alostcorner. I just went through my old flist and added everyone, but I know I've been neglecting some of you lately.

And sorry to everyone for any inconvenience or confusion.

ALSO: I've really been busy working for minimum wage and packing and writing THE MEAN GIRLS FIC THAT ATE MY BRAIN, so I'm sorry if I missed anything important.

You can read aforementioned Mean Girls fic-- which was originally close to 10k before I deleted a subplot of sorts-- at the Femslash 2010 Exchange (femslash10). Figured it was best to post it directly to the community while I'm moving journals.

you say you want a revolution
for aphrodite_mine
Fandom: Mean Girls
Characters/Pairings: Janis Ian; Janis/Regina George, Janis/Kevin Gnapoor
Word count: ~6700
Warnings: Coarse language, references to bullying, very mild sexuality, excessive use of the word "like" and other teen-girl-isms.
Summary: Post-movie. North Shore High is without a queen bee, Damien tries his hand at psychoanalysis, Regina is a little bit gay, and Janis holds a grudge.
Notes: Thanks to ranka_lee and the bestest rl friends ever for beta-reading and laughing with me more often than at me ♥

Took computer to the park today and wrote 2000 words... of my femslash10 assignment, not the big bang BUT that needs to be written too, and it's going um a lot better than the big bang because I've already met the minimum word count, hah. Also it's a fandom I've never written before, so that's exciting :D

HOWEVER

take a look at this graphic representation of my big bang progress:

2830 / 20000 words. 14% done!

That's more than 10% ;u;

I also have not one but two new books out from the library now specifically about Woodstock, tons of reference sites bookmarked, and a few hours of relevant music lined up to get me in the mood whenever, so hooray :D

CURRENT WORRIES

1) Chekov augh-- he's not very proud of being Russian in this AU because of the setting, and I'm worried that nobody will recognise him because that's too important to his characterisation and I'm making him too different from his XI and TOS incarnations and adaflsnalkwaeosda

2) I am having fun writing rambling on about the scenery and using abusing flashbacks but nobody else will care enough to want to read the whole thing because there isn't a whole lot of PLOTTINESS
2b) I will be torn between editing out my boring ramblings and meeting the word count when September 1st arrives, because my usual method is to write way more than I need and then cut out huge blocks of text but use snippets of those deleted scenes to flavour the essential bits of the story and... I just can't imagine that all this scenery porn is gonna be essential, hah

It's really nice to have an excuse to write Irina Galliulin, though. She hasn't gotten around to being her wacky TOS self yet, but that will come with time, I'm sure.

The story of my, um, story for startrekbigbang goes a little something like this:

March
Start babbling to greenteaduck about epic Summer of Love Chulu AU that I will never write. She tells me to write it. I read about the Cold War and Janis Joplin instead of doing math homework.

April
Start doing math homework instead of doing research for an epic AU that I will never write.

May
Sign up for Star Trek Big Bang. Tell myself I'm writing that epic Summer of Love Chulu AU, even though I just finished Ship Wars and I consider myself all Chulu-ed out.

June
Boring RL stuff, blah blah blah. Watch Glee instead of writing.

July
Scrap Summer of Love AU. Outline a completely different story. Feel good about this story.
... Only then am called back to Chulu, and a copy of Taking Woodstock appears at my local library (a sign!). Actually start writing epic Summer of Love AU, changing the setting so it is now epic Woodstock AU.
Write 2000 words in one sitting. Realise I need a better outline.

So yeah, apparently I am writing the AU where they're all hippies. Let's see if I can stick with this through to September.

Happy International Day of Femslash! Unfortunately, I didn't finish the two other f/f fics I was working on before today, so I'm posting a cleaned-up (and retitled, augh titles) version of a fic I wrote for Ladyfest before I zoom out the door.

Title: Find the Words (originally called "maybe I could've been something you'd be good at")
Fandom: Star Trek XI
Characters/Pairings: Uhura/Gaila, Spock/Uhura
Word Count: ~2000
Rating: NC-17
Warnings: references to slavery, sexual content, character death
Summary: for kitausu's prompt "Uhura/Gaila, I'm not unfaithful but I'll stray/When I get a little scared". Nyota Uhura, who knows 83% of official Federation languages, struggles to define her relationship with her roommate.

repeat, repeat the I know words we both saidCollapse )

This has been my fic playground for the past... ooooh, over a week now. It is awesome and although the flow of prompts has slowed down, I highly suggest checking it out if you haven't already, because there is some amazing stuff there :D

And, for my own archiving purposes, here are my fills so far:

1. Glee, Stranger in a Strange Land, rated G
For the prompt "Glee, Mercedes Jones, oh my god, I can't believe it/I've never been this far away from home."

2. Valiant, Orpheus Descending, rated PG-13
For the prompt "Valiant by Holly Black. Val + Ruth or Val/Ruth ; I'll be by your side, believe me." Warning for language.

I kind of want to post this one somewhere else just because fic for these books is so rare, but I don't know of any communities.

3. Star Trek, maybe you could've been something I'd be good at, rated NC-17
For the prompt "Star Trek, Uhura (/Gaila), I'm not unfaithful but I'll stray/When I get a little scared." Warnings for (brief) graphic sexual content, (canon?) character death, and references to slavery.

... This one got long and kind of moved away from the prompt (which includes Tegan and Sara lyrics omggggg). I want to clean it up later and post it to where_no_woman, though. It is also the smuttiest thing I have posted ever, anon or signed in, which just shows how vanilla I am.

Also! I think I owe the Internet some flailure over my Star Trek Big Bang fic (or rather, my Star Trek Big Bang outline ah ha ha ha), but that will have to wait for another night, because I want to get some more writing done before bed.

... And after spending twenty minutes tagging this post, perhaps I need a new fic-tagging system. Or a masterpost. Or something.

edit (July 11, 2010): After reading letters by people who have actually done this sort of thing before, I've come up with something a little more neat and detailed. But I'm leaving the original entry below.

So!

Dear Femslash10 Writer:

Thank you for signing up for this exchange! I'm both excited and nervous to be taking part this year, but reading other people's notes has helped me figure out what I want to write. So hopefully, if you're worried too, this will put your mind at ease.

What I look for in fic is generally character development and insight into relationships. I like to be convinced that a pairing-- even one I already ship-- would work. I'm the sort of person who spends her Sunday mornings reading meta posts. I like lots of ~analysis~.

That being said, I've been known to go nuts for in-character schmoop and porn and crack. And fic that isn't relationship-centric! So please, go wild.

Now, as for my requests--

Harry Potter
... I er haven't been active in this fandom for years, so I'm going on memories. But! I have fond memories of all three of the ships I requested (Ginny/Luna, Ginny/Cho, and Hermione/Parvati).
Really, I love any of the ladies mentioned in my requests, so if you want to include any of them in the background without pairing them off, that's fine by me :D

Glee
Santana/Brittany is kind of obviously adorable. I've only seen one Santana/Tina fic ever and it was awesome. There is also a dearth of Quinn/Mercedes fic out there-- or hell, Mercedes fic in general :(

Star Trek TOS
Star Trek is my major fandom right now. I'm mostly into the Reboot, but I adore the campiness of TOS and fic that embraces that campiness.
I started looking for Uhura/Chapel fic after watching The Changeling, if that helps any :)

Bend it Like Beckham
This was my favourite movie for YEARS. I love it I love it I love it. So I will basically go gaga for anything in this fandom, but I'm partial to fic that's set post-movie and that doesn't ignore Jess's canon relationship with Joe.

And that's it! I hope I've rambled enough at you, and I can't wait to see what you come up with. Feel free to comment anon on this entry-- or any entry, really.

Love,

Chak

Definitely check out galileo7's lovely art fill if you haven't already.

... My title is shamelessly stolen from Paparazzi by Lady Gaga.

... in which I manage to actually just write for once instead of dithering (although I did have a whine a few hours ago), and in which I project my love of Oscar Wilde onto Kurt Hummel.

ETA: ... Must remember not to post things at 2:30 while slightly loopy. Rating has been changed and typos presumably fixed.

Title: Stargazing
Fandom: Glee
Characters/Pairing(s): Kurt gen, with mentions of one-sided Kurt/Finn
Word Count: ~1000
Rating: G PG for language
Summary: A boy's got to dream, and Kurt Hummel is no exception. Inspired by what is probably everyone's favourite scene in Theatricality.

We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars. -Oscar WildeCollapse )

Posting this in part to prove to myself that I still use this journal.

I haven't been too pleased with anything I've written recently, which is one of many reasons I've been moping around for the past few weeks. I think my major problem is I feel like I keep writing the same story again and again. When I'm feeling positive, I think of it as refining some "ideal story" in my head-- when I'm feeling down, I think of it as being uncreative.

I mean, I've sat down to write mirrorverse, and I still see it as too similar to my non-mirrorverse. There are certain tropes that I know I'm really attached to, but I worry that I'm a one-trick pony. And then I think, hey Chak it's not like you're that prolific anyway, might as well keep writing the same thing.

So, to the writerly people on my f-list: are there recurring elements in your fic? Do you worry that you're too repetitive?

...

And now I return to finishing the Chulu fic I started for the kinkmeme >_>

stuff happens. Everyone has beards on their icons now?
Wow.
I've got a lot of catching up to do. And WiPs to finish. And. Stuff. Um. Hey, fellow chuluers: there has been wank? D:
I'm so out of the loop.
